The sacred concert by St. Patrick's choir, in aid of choir funds, in the Zealandia Hall on last Sunday evening, was very largely attended and much enjoyed. The choir was greatly strengthened by an orchestra, consisting partly of gentlemen belonging to other local choirs, whose kindness on all occasions is much appreciated. The following were the items of the programme : — Overture by the orchestra ; Murphy's ' Tantrnn Ergo,' choir, the solos being taken by Messrs. Hanly (bass), Dallow (tenor); song, 'Galilee,' Mr. Ed. The Catholic Men's Club gave an 'at home ' in their new rooms a few evenings ago, when there was a very good attendance. The chairman, Mr. A. Kickards, in welcoming the guests, made some very appropriate remarks on the advantages derived from beingmembers of the club. The first item on the programme was a card tournament, then came a recitation by Mr. Bey. A debate, ' Should bachelors be taxed ? ' followed. The affirmative side was taken by Messrs. McLean, Higgins, and Doyle, and the negate by Messrs. L. Hanlon, P. Power, and T. Kennedy. Light refreshments were dispensed by the members of the club. The secretary, Mr. Jb. Higgins, gave a resume of the club's work during the present session, showing the advance made. The rooms aie now furnished, and they had procured a piano to assist the social side of the club's endeavors. He appealed to those present to assist in making the club a success. A song by Miss Violet McGrath and the singing of ' Auld lang syne ' brought a pleasant evening to a close.
