(From our own correspondents) - ' ' ' July 4. The annual social of the- Children of Mary took place in St. Patrick's schoolroom last month. Songs and recitations were given by several of the members. Ltght refreshments were provided by the members, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. A very pleasing ceremony took place at Mr. • Duncan McLean's store last Saturday evening, "when the employees made a presentation t o Mr. Henry Brown on the occasion of his approaching marriage. Mr. JosephMcLean, in making the presentation, which consisted 1 of a silver tea and coSee - set, referred to the excellent

character and ability of their guest, and wished him every success and happiness in his married life. On behalf of the firm he also presented Mr. Brown with a handsome set of staghorn carvers. Mr. Brown suitably returned thanks for the handsome -presents. All Saints' Chiireh, Barrytown, was the scene of a very pretty wedding last Monday, when Miss Mary Agnes Wafer, daughter of Mr. Joseph Wafer, was united in the bonds of Matrimony to Mr. Thomas Louden Austin, of Diniedin. The ceremony was performed by the Very Rev. Dean C&rew-. The bride looked charming in> a pale green Eton costume. She was attended by her sister, Miss Annie Wafer, as bridesmaid. Mr. Joseph Wafer, jim., acted as best man. After the ceremony they drove to the .residence of the bride's parents, where the wedding breakfast was partaken of and the usual toastst proposed and honored. The happy couple left on Tuesday for their' future home 'in Christchurch. A very pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Patrick's Church yesterday, by the Rev. Father Taylor, the contracting parties being Mr. Henry Brown, of Greymouth, and Miss Mary JNlcG'illicuddy, of South Beach. The bride, who was ghen away by her brother, wore a pretty grey costume. Miss Bridget McGillycuddy w a s bridesmaid, and Mr. Martin Kennedy acted as best man. Afte- the ceremony a large number of guests were entertained at the residence of the bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs, Brown were the i recipients of numerous and valuable presents; amongst whicn were a coal scuttle and fireirons from the members of the Greymouth Fire. Brigade, of which Mr. Brown has been a valued member during the past ten years. On last Saturday evening there passed away, after a very long illness, at her residence, Hubert street, a highly esteemed citizen of Greymouth in the person of Mrs. Sampson. Deceased arrived in Greymouth in 1865, and was well known 'throughout the district. She was a kind and charitable woman, and her many acts of kindness 1 and benevolence will be long remembered. She was a loving and devoted rrao't'her, and reared a family of three sons and one daughter. Her husband predeceased her many yea's ago. 'Ihe late Mrs. Sampsonwas a devoted and practical Catholic, and was attended in her last illness by the Rev. Father . Taylor Deceased was a native of Galbally, County Limerick and was 68 years of age. The funeral, which took place last Monday afternoon, was very largely attended Mends coming from all parts of the district. Rev' Father Taylor officiated at the graveside.— R, l P
