Strachan, M.-.A.,- on the Catholic schools, Blenheim :— St. Mary's .Boys' School.— Compulsory subjects : Reading, satisfactory ; composition, satisfactory, essajis of'litgh quality ; writing, satisfactory, Standard V., good ; spelling, good^ Standards VI., V., 111., good to excellent ; recitation, satisfactory to good; Standard 1., excellent j arithmetic, fair; Standard* 111., excellent- ; drawing,, good ,- Standards VI., IV., 111., II;, ; singing, good ; physical instruction, good ; geography, fair ; history,- good to excellent— judging by essay's this supiect is taught by: _ right' and interesting .methods ; moral instruction and .health, receives' "atten- • "lion. Additional subjects.— Nature study' and elementary science, gardens have been instituted, and judging by the essays, much very good work has been done there in cultivating original observation ; '~ handwork, brush drawing' improved »m .originality. Order, -discipline, and tone" of the school, very good ; - efficiency of -t>h« school, satisfactory. I was pleased to note the greatly improved attendance. Instruction of Class P., good. Order, discipline, and tone of the school, excel- " lent. Efficiency of the, scjtfool, etc., good, The Sisters deserve much praise for the general standard attained"
