The Captain-elect was introduced to the members of the corps at a social given last Thursday, when the prizes won during the past year were presented to the winners. * c

The billiard tournament wilL be finally decided next Wednesday, when the two now left in, Messrs. F. Sykes and J. M'arfcham, will try conclusions. The winner will be presented with the sold medal donated by Mr. J. Mcßrearty. The St. Mary's quoit club played the Christ Church club last Wednesday, and won by 98 points. The question, ' Is it desirable that women should have the franchise 9 ' was well debated in. the presence of a large numbei of ladies who act r d as judges, their decision being in the affirmative. The leaders in the debate were — affirmative, Rev. Father Mahony ; negative, Mr. J. O'Brien. Mr. J. R. Hunt (president of the club) was in the chair. The verdict was by the narrow majority of one vote. The club ha 1 c started a musical branch under tha management of Mr. C. Wixscey, a gentleman who has had experience with the Wanganii Orchestral Society. The secretary is Mr. P. B. Lomax. The executhe are agreeably surprised at the amount of talent tliat is coming forward.
