July 28. The Catholic Young Men's Literary Society will be represented in the inter-society debate here by Messrs Moran, Baker, and Kane. Of the three University represent atnes, two are members of the club, viz. Messrs Fitzgibbon and' ; G'Leary. The Very Rev. Father Keogh, S.M., 8.A,, Rector of St. latrick's College, has just issued to parents of pupils a, neat pamphlet gi -ing the results attained in the several subjects by e a cli pupil at the college during the examinations conducted in Ji.ne last. The idea is splendid one, and gives pannts and others concerned a good comparative (view of the work of each pupil. At the Sacred Heart Basilica on Wednesday morning Mr. James Prendeville, LL.B., barrister and solicitor, of Eketahuna and formerly of Wellington, was married to Miss Helen Sutherland,' of Martinborough. The ceremony was performed by the Very Rev. Father Lewis VG. The bride was attended by Miss Amelia Prendeville Miss Dora Sutherland, and JVliss Ann Cameron. Mr. Da id Logan, of Masterton, acted as best man. Mr. Philip McEnroe, proprietor of the Britannia Hotel here, died on Tuesday night after a short illness-. Mr McEnroe was well known on the West Coast, having resided at Add i son s, near Westpcrt, for the past thirty years. He had lust recently left the Coast to" take over the Britannia Hotel in Willis street. Father Moloney was entertained at a social gathering in the Alexandra Hall. The function was h L >ld under the auspices of the Te AroChristian Doctrine Society. f l he attendance was a large one, among those present being the Yen. Archdeacon Devoy, S.M. (Pro\inri a l), and the Rev. Fathers O'Shea Ainsworth, Kirn-bell, McDonald, \enning, and Herring! On behalf of the Christian Doctrine Society Mr. C. J. Outrun presented Father Moloney with a roller desk and chair. The Rev. Father, in replying, spoke of the kindness he had always received at the hands of his parish priest, the Rev. Father O'Shea, and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the members of the society for their very genierous gift. Musical items were contributed by Misses Lamacroft, Segrief, Jones, McKay, Rev Father Moloney, and Messrs. Out rim and F o ote. Mr. McLaughlin's orchestra also played several selections during the evening. The Rev. Father Ilolley, S.M., reoently appointed pansh priest at Blenheim, was entertained by the parishioners of Thorndon at a valedictory social in the (riuldford Terrace schoolroom on Thursday evening. -His Grace ih^ Aichbishop, many of "the clergy, and a great gathering of parishioners assembled for the occasion-Lieut-Colonel R. J. Collins presided, and on behalf of the Catholics of Thorndon presented Father HolLey with a purse of ro ereigns and a beautifully illuminated address, testifying to the esieem and regard in which he was held, and the widespread ami genuine regret felt at his departure.
