PALMERSTON NORTH

(From our owe correspondent.) June 4. The first/ of a series of sacred concerts in aid of the parish debt was given in the Zealandia Hall last night after devotions by St. Patrick's choir, assisted by their friends. The hall was well filled by an appreciative {"•'dience, whose liberality wrll spur the choir to give them an even better programme, if possiHlo, on the next occasion. The following programme, arranged by Mrs. Russell, gave every satisfaction, the only complaint being that it was far too short : — Choir, ' Praise to tho Holiest,' from the ' A run-del Hynmbook '•; sang, 1 Crossing the bar,' Miss Clifford ; intermezzo, Mrs. Russell (organ), Mr. Cook (piano), Mr. Hood (violin) ; song, ' Calvary,' Mr. J. Russell ; song, ' Oh, dry those tears,' Miss Garrity ; duet, ' Tan turn Ergo ' (Rossi), Messrs. V. Dallow an<l E. Hitchings ; violin solo, ' Cavatina,' Mr. R. Hood; song, -The last muster,' Miss Cameron ; song, ' The star of Bethlehem,' Mr. Thos. Rodgers ; song, ' Sunshine and rain,' Miss Cameron ; choir, ' Nearer my God to Thee,' in which the larsre audience very heartily joined in at the invitation of Mr. Dallow. Tho accompaniments were played by Mrs. Russell and Mr. Cook. The stage was very tastefully arranged with palms and other rot plants by Misses Stag-pole and Brophy. About a dozen members of the Wellington Youna; Men's Catholic Defeating Society paid a visit to Pa-1-nierston on Saturday.
