■November 16. The tennis Club is now in active operation. "A tournament wa<- started on the opening day. (iood progress is being made in the preparations for the ba/aar, which will be held during the Chnstmas holidays. The members of the Reefton Amateur Dramatic Club staged ' The Confidential Clerk ' at the Princess Theatre on Thursday evening for the benefit of the Catholic ba/.aar kind The house was literally packed, and the audience were evidently much pleased with the mannei in which the characters were presented. The characters of Mrs Morgan (Miss Clerkin), Miggie," (Miss Piimmer), and Edna Morgan (Miss Montgomeiie) were effectively represented, while Miss Ida Green who personated little Bessie at once gained the sympathy ot the audience by her engaging acting. All the

male characters were well sustained, the various parti being as follows :— Mr. Morgan (Mr. Felton), lnsh'ser vant (Mr. Fama), Mr. Clifford Roberts (Mr. Hedgeman) Squire Synder (Mr. W. Smith), Detective Buck (Mr W. J. Morris), Ephraim (Master Cochrane), John th< Boatman (Mr. Hoffmeister), Sergeant Hoogan (Mr. L Grange), Constable Sims (Mr. P. Cohen). The orches tra gave excellent selections throughout the perform ance, and the company are to be congratulated or the complete success of a most pleasing entertain ment. Mr. W. J. Morris, on behalf of the performers thanked the audience for their attendance, and th( Reef ton City Band and Orchestral Society for then kind assistance free of charge, and also compliment et Mr. Fama as stage manager. Mr. Fama, late of Chris tchurch, took the part o Mike M'Cann with considerable success. He supplied the comio element for which Mr. Fama is so well adapted. On Monday evening, November 13, the same plaj was staged at Totara Flat in aid of the funds of th( West Coast Coursing Club, when it was witnessed bj a packed house.
