St. Benedict's bazaar, which remained open all last week, was continued for three days of this week. The financial results are considered good. The committee worked very hard, and their labours have been rewarded.. His Lordship the Bishop was at Te Aroha last Sunday, where he laid the foundation stone of the new school. Rev. Father McCiuiness has not been long in getting to work in his new parish. The Bishop returned to town last Tuesday afternoon. At the Presbyterian synod just concluded in Auckland, the Rev. Mr. Tait, of Christchurch, so far forgot himself as to say : 'It would be wise if our ministers would from time to time warn the people not to send their children to convent schools— and there was a tendency to do this, he regretted to say— where the old superstitions against which John Knox fought were taught to-day ' Rev. Gray Dixon said : ' The Roman and Anglican Churches' ideals were noT upon a level with theirs , they inclined towards the gambling spirit.' The amusing part of all this lies in the fact that in the discussion the speakers rejoiced that their Church had always exhibited that tolerance and broadmindedness which Knox had inculcated !

Mr. Mulhall, of Ilobart, who took part in the musical portion of the ceremonies at St. Mary's Cathedral in honor of Archbishop Murphy's jubilee, has been singing in Catholic choirs in Hobart for 63 years.
