St. T idore, Bishop, Confessor, and Doctor. St. Isidore, theologian and chronicler, was born at Carthagena in Spain, of which his father Severianus was prefect. He was a brother of Fulgentius of Carthagena and of St. Leander of Seville, succeeding the latter as bishop (600). The collection of canons, formerly ascribed to him, is not his work. With St. Isidore closes the line of the Latin Fathers of the Church. St.. Sixtnis 1., Pope and Martyr. St./ Sixttis 1., who was Pope from 117 to »127, was bom at Rome, where he suffered martyrdom under Hadrian.
