MR. DENIS HOARE, KERRYTOWN
One of the oldest landmarks of this district (writes an esteemed correspondent) was removed on August 24, by the death of Mr. Dems Hoaie. The deceased landed in Dunedin in August, 1862, and for a time was engaged as a ganger at some work at Bell Hill, Dulicdm Loavni'g tih ere he V&me to South Canterbury, whore he worked at road formation between Timaru and Ashburton. In 1866 he settled in Kerrytown on a comfortable farm, where he remained until his death. The deceased was one of the most respected men in t/he district, ever to the fore in any good works for the welfare of the Church, or his neighbors, lie was always amqng the first to assist in any charitable undertaking. He will be greatly missed not only by his fam, ily, but by his very many friends, who always found pleasure in his company. For tihe past twelve months tiie deceased had been far from well, and his death at the age of (>5, although deeply regretted, was not altogether unexpected. His funeral was one of the largest seen in this district for years. He leaves a family of seven, of whom two are Sisters of St. Joseph, and a son is studying for the priesthood at St. Mary's Seminary, Metainee. Mrs. Hoare and her family have the sincerest sympathy of a very large circle of friends in their sad bereavement. — R.1.1'.
