The following are the officers of t/he Hokitika Catholic Literary and Debating Society for tiie Current year : President, Mr. I<\ Seller's, sen. , vice-president, Mr. H. Williams ; secretary and trfas'uror, Mr. T. (Jxeen, juju. ; press correspondent, Mr F Sellers, jun. , committee, Messrs Doherty, Burger, Dee, Daly, and Dixo-n. The Si)cial given at St. Mary's Hall, Nelson, on Tuesday night of last week was well attended. The musical programme (says the ' Colonist ') was an excellent one, the spirited pianoforte diuet by the Misses Fowler being a taste of the good items to follow. S.ongs were contributed by Misses L. Harris (enteored), Scott, and C Armstrong, Messrs. T. Coitidell, O'Bekne, Bunny, Jackson, and Hdwards, and a glee by members of St. Mary's choir. Miss Duff accompanied the Vocalist's, and Miss Shane (violin) also assisted when Miss Sciott hiang. O|n the motion of Hhe Rev. Father ClSfccy, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the performers 'artd the committee. Trie impressive cererrfo'ny of reception took place at St. Patrick's Church, Wasterfcon, on T.uasM'ay of last week, when three yomng ladies were received infyo the Order of Sisters of St. Brigid. The young lajdicfe were Mrsls Shapter (in religion Sister Mary Peter), Miss L. Truman (Sister Mary Paul), Miss M. Cooke (Sister Malry Canice). There was a very large coaigfe'gation present. The Very ißev. Father Lewis, V.G., performed tihe ceremony, and was assisted by toe Yen. ArcftNdeacon Devpy and Vetfy Rev. Dean McKenna, and Rev. Fathers T. McKenna, Hicksion, Htolley, Ainswoctfe, O'Shea, Cadiill, and Walsh were also present. T|ie oocasitonai serlmon was preaclted by the Very Rev. Father Lewis, who took as his tevt the words : ' If tho« wilt enter into life everlasting kedp the Com'iniandmeint.s.' The special Choir selected from St. Bride's prupils for the occasion (says tihe local ' Times ') consibited of tjie Misisete Bennington, NestWr, Jury, and Hennessey (soprani), aihd the Misses K. Hblloway, Eileett Jago, and Nilseon (alt^). and were assiseed by Miss Annie Gallagjjjeir, of Grreytown (aoprarto), Mrss Daisy Reilly, A.T.C.L., of Hawer^ (alto), a,nd Mr. Dolin ('basso). The tcaining of the special choir reflected great credit on the coiwhictress, Sister Mary Joseph. An especial word of prto-ise is due to Miss Elsie Ridhafds, tfho presided wit»h great girility at the organ.
