(From an occasional correspondent.) May 7. Death has again oeen busy in our mijdst, and on May 4 numbered among its victims a youth of some fifteen summers, who until some few weeks ago was quite hale and hearty. The deceased, Master Thomas Cooper, s'ojn of Mrs. James Cooper, had the great privilege of being' attended in his last moments by the Fathers of the m ssion, who for the last fortnight have been laboring in our midst for the welfare of souls. A Requiem Mass was offered at nine o'clock on Saturday for the repose of his soul, and after Mass the body was conveyed to its last resting place, attended by many friends of the deceased and his sorrowing mother.—X.l.P. On Sunday (April 24) a mission was commenced in St. Mary's Church by Rev. Fathers King and McDermott of the Redemptorist Order, and morning and evening for the last fortnight the church has been crowded by the faithful. On Friday (6th inst.), being the first Friday of the month and t(he day appointed by the missionaries for a solemn Communion of reparation to the Sacred Heart and a grand solemnity in 'honor of the Blessed Mother of Gad, fully three hundred people attended the halfpast six o'clock Mass and received the Blessed Sacrament ; whilst in the evening t/he church was taxed to its utmost to contain the laige congregation assembled to honor the Blessed Viegin. Mr. R. Fraher, who for the past six years was teller in the Bank of New Zealand, has been promoted to accoaitntant and transferred to Westport. Whilst congratulating him on his weli c deserved promotion, we are sorry to lose him, as he has always been a zealous worker in all church matters, and in his occupation as a bank official he has gained the esteem and respect of all. I trust that his promotion is the forerunner of many others and that soon we will hear of our old friend being promoted to the charge of one of the many branches of the Bank of New Zealand.
