L.he openung meeting of the current session of the St. Joseph's Men's Club takes place on Friday evening when the inaugural address will be delivered by tihe Rev. Father Murphy, Adm. Father Oaffey, who had been on a visit to Auckland for the purpose of saying good-bye to his relative, Dean Smyth, of Hastings, who left by the San Francisco mail steamer on a t/ip to -Europe, returned to Dunedin during the week, and will be entertained by his parishioners at a social gathering on Friday evening.

Tihe annual meeting of the St. Mary's Literary and Social Club, Milton, was held in the schoolroom on Monday night, the president (the Very Rqv. Father O'Neill) in the chair. The committee's report showed that the session for the previous year had been a remarkaibly successful one, the attendance at the meetings averaging between thirty and forty, and on several occasions reaching as high as sixty members. The election of office-bearers for the coming session resulted as follows :— President, Very Rev. Father O'Neill ; vicepresidents, Messrs. J. A. Scott and W. Kirby ; secretary, HMiss Scanlan ; librarian, Mr. Jas. Curran ; committee, Mcsdiames Keogh and Kirby, Miss McLachlan, Messrs. Nolan, Ward, Walsh, and Jas. Lynch. Mr. Scott submitted a provisional syllabus covering the first six weeks and this was unanimously adopted. There was an excellent attendance at the meeting, and there is every indication that the club will have a thoroughly successful session.

Of tjhe principal stall prizes the Home Rule screen (Miss Staunton's present) fell to Mr. Collins, of the Gladstone Hotel , the Leinster screen to Mrs. Tynan ; the Munster screens to Mr M'Nair and Constable Willianus respectively.
