NEW ZEALAND. GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT. LAND FOR SETTLEMENTS. r V HE GOVERNMENT having acquired the following 9 Estates at reasonable prices, they will be offered for lease in perpetuity at 5 per cent, rents, viz. :—: — AUCKLAND —The Matamata Estate, containing) about 42,000 acres, divided into about fifty farms' of 150 to 450 acres suitable for mixed dairying and cattleraising, and about 100 farms from 300 to 2000 acres suitable for raising sheep and cattle. Soil, generally] light and free , rainfall, abundant Stock do well, as those now running there testify. Grows magnificent green crops, but does not grow cereals for grain. Rents Is to 8s per acre, per annum 1 . Will be open for belection about the middle of April, 1001 CANTERBURY —The Levels Estate (renamed Rosewill), containing about 38,000 acres, divided into about 130 farms of from 40 to 800 acres, surtable for cultivation for gram, roots, and grass ; three small runs up to 1800 acres, tor gra/.mg only , and a few village and workmen's areas of \ to 10 acres. The soil is generally heavy, partly limestone, has grown good crops of wheat and other grain, and is situated in one of the [bestfarmed districts in New Zealand Rents from 2s 6d to 13s an acre for agricultural land, 2s 7d to 5s 3d for the pastoral land, and 2s to 20s for the small areas Will be open for selection on 7th March, 1904. SOUTHLAND —The Edendale Estate, containing about 20,000 acres, divided into about sixty dairy farms of from 60 to 250 acres, about twenty hill farms of 200 to 300 acres, and about twenty small farms of 10 acres each. The land consists mainly of a rich alluvial plain, on which dairy iarmers have done well for many years. The first dairy factory started in New Zealand was at Edendale, the cheese produced there being famous for quality and quantity. The hill faims are the lower slopes of low ranges. The small areas are near the factory and comprise some of the best land. The Edendale Estate has been the show ground of the N.Z and A. Land Company, and its cultivation has been of the best. The cattle and sheep are excellent. The rents will probably be from 3s to 15s for the dairy farms, about 5s for the hills farms, and about 17s for the small areas. The land will be open for selection some time in April. These estates are all intersected by railway. Deposit : Half year's rent. Personal application necessary. By Order.
