St. Mary's High School, Christchurch

(From our Christchurch correspondent.) His Lordship Bishop Grimes presided at the annual entertainment a*nd distribution of prices in connection! with St. Mary's High School, Colombo street, conducted b|y the Sisters of Mercy, which took place on Thursday last, December 22. The Bishop was accompanied toy • the Very Rev. Vicar-General, Very Revs. Dean Foley and Father Marnabe, and Rev. Fathers C coney and McDonnell. After the prize distribution the Bishop congratulated the pupils and their teachers on the excellent work done during the year. He spoke in eulogistic terms- of the vocal, instrumental, and elocutionary items which they had heard rendered. This was proof enough (said his Lordship) of the high moral and intellectual training the pupils were receiving, and also stated that in addition to the passes in the various standards, one pupil passed the first section of the Senior Civil Service, one passed the medical preliminary examination, and another the Junior Civil Service, In the music examinations (practical and theoretical) 32 candidates were successful, 15 gaining honors in musical knowledge. Thomas, V. de la Cour ; violin solo, Miss M. Z/aoharian. Then followed a one-act drama, ' Unjust Suspicion,' in which the parts were ably taken by Misses M. Molloy, K. Molloy, M. Callaghan, K.
