Estate Commissioner
Mr. Michael Finucane, Companion of the Star of India, who will be one of the new Estate Commissioners, is "&, son of Mr, James Fin'ucane, of Limerick. He married in 1889 Lola Geitrude, daughter of Lieutenant-Co-lonel Mathew, of the Indian Medical Service. Mr. Finucane is a Secretary to the Government of Bengal Revenue and General Statistics Department He was educated at a private school, and afterwards at tho Queen's College, Cork, and is an M.A. of the late Queen's University. He entered the Indian Civil Service in 1872, became Under-Secretary for Bengal in 1880 ; Director of the Department of Land Records and Agriculture in Ben?al in 1884 ; Officiating Secretary of the Government of ndia Revenue and Agriculture Department in 1894 ; and is a member of the Legislative Council of Bengal. He was decorated for famine services in 1897, and ho has published a work entitled ' The Bengal Truancy Act.'
