AKAROA.

The ' Akaroa Mail,' of April 15, gives an interesting account of a very successful concert given at the Oddfellows Hall, Akaroa, on Easter Monday by the children of the convent school. The object of the concert was to liquidate the debt on the beautiful new school recently erected on the church grounds by the Rev. Dr. Kennedy. The Oddfellows' Hall was crowded by an enthusiastic and appreciative audience — the largest audience for years past. Tho s.s. Piraki, which was running special trips to tho bays, brought in a number of friends, who had some difficulty in finding seats. Mr. Ingram acted as stage manager. The programme was as follows : Piano solo, Miss Mitchell ; violin solo, Miss Winnie Harbey ; songs by Mrs. Ingram and Miss F. Lyons ; violin duet by Misses O. Lo Lievre and W. Narbey ; violin trio (' Grandpa's darlings '), Misses F. Lyons, F, Vangioni, and FJ. Rodrigucs ; ' Charity (song with tableau), Miss N. Vangioni ; comic duet, Misses F. Lyons and F. Vangioni. Tho cantata ('The Violet-Sellers') which closed the first part of the programme, was much admired, as the young people acquitted themselves remarkably well and evidently succeeded in pleasinar the large audience. The performance concluded with a very amusing farce, entitled, ' Ici on parle Francais.' After the entertainment the Rev. Dr. Kennedy addressed the audience, thanking them for their attendance and kind co-operation. He referred to the juvenility of most of the performers and to the efficient manner' in which they had, nevertheless, acquitted themselves of their parts. The financial results were

far beyond the most sanguine expectations of the Rev. Dr. Kennedy, who deserves great credit for the work he has accomplished during his short administration of the parish.
