In a leading article the paper speaks very nehtly of the introduction as 'the greatest improvement connected with printing since the discovery of the art itself.' Ten years later the ' Times ' returned to the subject, and, after praising Koenig who first applied steam power to printing-, stated that the baine inventor had accomplished the great improvement of printing the sheet on both sides, and by that means in the year 1824, 2000 copies were printed in an hour with more ease than 1100 were in 1814. It was three years later before a book was printed by steam, the first being Dr. Elli&ton's second edition of the translation of Blumenbach's ' Physiology,' in 1817
