ARCHDIOCESE OF WELLINGTON.

(From our own correspondent.) January 17. Tha Very Rev. Father Keogh, Rector of St. Patricks College, returned from his southern trip on Tuesday last. The many friends of Rev. Father Ainsworth will be sorry to hear that he is indisposed and at preeent confined to his room. The Yen. Archdeacon Devoy, Provincial, wentFOuth on Monday last to be present at the priests' retreat in the Christchurch diocese. He returns on Tuesday next. The Christian Doctrine Society in the Te Aro parish, and the Marist Brothers' Old Boys' Association hold their annual picnics on Thursday next, Anniversary Day. St. Joseph's choir will have their outing the following week. At the olose of the mission in the Te Aro parish next month the third instalment of money towards the Cathedral fund will be received. Rev. Father Goggan, who has been in obarge of the Napier parish during Very Rev. Dean Grogan's absence, returns to Wellington next week. Very Rev. Dean Lightheart made an appeal at the Church of the Sacred Heart last Sunday for funds in aid of the Maori Missions. The rev. gentleman is an able and fluent speaker and gives a very interesting account of the work he is engaged in. A most satisfactory Bnm was collected. At St. Joseph's Church to-morrow a similar appeal will be made. The Dean has had permission to collect in other parts of the archdiocese. The marriage of Miss Elizabeth Seivers, eldest daughter of Mr A. Seivers, of Makara, to Mr J. Harrison, of the Wairarapa, was celebrated by Rev. Father Holley on Monday last. The church was crowded and prettily decorated for the occasion. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Ada Seivers, as bridesmaid, and Mr Arthur Seivers acted as groomsman. M*. The half-yearly meeting of the local branch of the Hibernian Society was held at St. Patrick's Hall on Wednesday last, the president, Bro. J. W. Callaghan, being in the chair. There was a record attendance of members. The report and balance sheet showed the affairs of the society to be in a most progressive state, and the secretary was complimented for the excellence of his management of the society's affaire. It was decided by a large majority that the branch should join the Friendly Societies' Dispensary Board, on which Bro. P. J. Kelliher was elected the representative, and Bro. H. McKeown delegate to the Friendly Societies Council. The election of officers resulted ac follows : — President, Bro. J. Stratford ; vice-president, Bro. J. Gosling ; secretary, Bro. P. J. Kelliher ; treasurer, Bro. M. Bohan ; warden, Bro. T. M'Mahon ; guardian Bro. J. Casey. Owing to the amount of business transacted the installation of officers was adjourned until next week's meeting.
