ST. MARY'S CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL, PONSONBY.

(From our Auckland correspondent). December 24. The annual entertainment in connection with the distribution of prizes took place last evening at St. Mary's Convent High School, Ponsonby. The schoolroom was crowded, all the parents and friends of the children being invited. His Lordship Bishop Lenihan presided, and among the clergy were the Key. Fathers Benedict, 0.D., Purton, 0.5.8., Holbrook, and Very Rev. Dean Lightheart. The gold medals were presented by his Lordship Dr. Lenihan, Mr. P. Darby and Kohn, and Mr W. J. Ralph presented one to be given at the end of the ensuing year to the most successful pupil at the musical examination of 1903. At the end of the musical part of the programme the prize list was read by the Rev. Father Hills (Wellington). The orchestral items were conducted by Mr Pague. First violins, Miss Whitsted and Master Gerald TUUph ; 2nd violins, Misses Ralph, G. Bray and E. Brown ; 'cellists Misses Ruthven and Jones ; cornet, Mr. White ; flute, Mr. Amodeo. The accompanists were Misses Ruthven, A. Ralph, J. Amodeo, and E. Cullen. The pianoforte selections were tastefully and effectively rendered. The song ' Maid of Malabar/ sung by Miss S. Williams, was encored. The recitations very good. The programme was brought to a close by the pretty cantata ' Daisy Dell,' in which the principal parts were taken by Misses Daphne Bickerton and Alda Ralph. The choruses showed careful training and were loudly applauded.
