Ootober 16. The Seminary Fund collection in the city on this ocoaiion has been much better than last year. Operations have been started at the Marist Brothers' new college by the contractor, Mr Moody. The Marist Brothers' School at the corner of Hobson and Wellington streets has been painted throughout on the outiside, and now presents a much improved appearance. For Auckland City there is quite a plethora of candidates, and more are promised. The contest, however, will ultimately narrow itself down, and an exoiting finish is promised for the ooveted trio of seats. Preparations are in progress for tha annual mortuary services, to be held in the Symond street Cemetery on All Souls' Day, when his Lordship the Bishop will attend. The Cemetery Board intend during the summer to effeot many necessary and permanent improve* ments in the cemetery. His Lordship Dr. Lenihan will administer the Saorament of Confirmation at St. Patriok'B Cathedral on Saturday, November 1. A weeks' mission by the Rev. Father Benedict, 0.P., will begin in St. Patrick's on next Sunday week. Rev. Fathers Furlong, Formey, and Holbrook, all newly-ordained priests, are en route to Australia in the steamship Runic, whence they come on to Auckland to commence their missionary labors. They are due here next month. A shop in Queen street has been secured by the Rev. Father Patterson, Adm., in which the Christmas Bazaar connected with St. Patrick's will be held. The Sisters.of Mercy and a number of ladies in the parish have been for months assiduously working to make the bazaar a success. On last Sunday morning and evening St. Patrick's ohoir was assisted by several ladies and gentlemen, members of Musgrove'a Opera Company. In the morning Mozart's 'Twelfth Mass' was suMg. The ' Gloria ' and ' Credo ' were given with fine effeot. Mr P. F. Hiscocks conducted, and Mr Harry Hisoocks presided at the organ.
