BISTEB ST. BOPHIA, CHBISTCHUBCH. (From our Chrietchurch correspondent.)

Very sincere sympathy is felt for the Sisters of Our Lady of Missions at the painfully sudden death of one of their community which occurred in the Monastery of the Sacred Heart, Barbadoea street, on the evening of Thursday last. The deceased religious was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Cottenll, of Fairlie, and known in religion as Siater St. Sophia. Being in delicate health for some time, the deceased was transferre I from the convent at Ashburton to the Mother house, and until the last begged to be allowed her share of the usual convent routine. Bhe reoeived Holy Communion on Thursday morning and on ascending to her apartments in the evening was suddenly seized with a fit of coughing, during whioh a blood vessel burst and she succumbed on the stairs. Sufficient time providentially intervene! for the Very Rev. Vicar-General to be summoned and impart the last sacred rites of Holy Church. Sister St, Sophia was but 23 years of age. In the Pro-Cathedral at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning a Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Very Rev. Vicar-General in the presence of the deoaaßed Sister's parents, Sisters of the Order, boarders at the convent and many others. The burial service at the graveside in Linwood Cemetery was read by the Rev. Father O'Connell. The pupils of the convent were among those who followed the remains to the cemetery. — R.I. P.
