CORK. —Mr Carnegie's Gift. At a- recent sitting of the Cork Council the Lond Mayor referred to »he generous offer of Mr. Carnegie of £10,000 to the citizens of Cork for the erection of a free public library for the city. He said that as the substance of the .communication rintimating the generous gift, which had been addressed to himself, had now become public property, and as it was entirely a Corporation gift, ho (the Lord Mayor) considered the Council was the proper place at whiich to read the communication. Alderman Pale, in supporting the observations of the Lord Mayor, proposed the following resojution, which was unanimously agreed to • ' That wq, the Council of the County Borough of Cork hereby tender, to Mr Carnegie our most cordial thanks for the princely gift of £10,000 which he has given to the city unencumbered for the purpose of providing a suitable b,uiilding for the free libnary, and that a copy of this resolution, under the Corporate Seal, bo forwarded to Mr. Carnegie.' DONEGAL. A groat temperance excursion o! about 800 adults, boys, and girla, from Ballyshannon, visited Dublin on August 6. The excursion was organised by Canon Kelly, P.P., Ballyshannon, and was composed of his parishioners. Father McNulty and Father Dorrian, his curates, spared no pains in seeing after the comfort and enjoyment of the excursionists. The completeness of the arrangements that wero made, and tho character of the excursion, reflected great credit on Ballyshannon and the good pniests who organised it. The party evidently onjoyed their outing despite the unfavorable nature of tho weather, and wero seen off from Amiens street by a number of fniends. DUBLlN.— 'lrish Pedigrees.' The death is announced in Dublin of John O'Hart, author of the wellknown work, ' Irish Pedigrees',' and many other important contributions to Irish genealogical history. Mr. O 'Hart's knowledge and industry resulted in tho compilation of a record of Irish families, native, Huguenot, and Palatine, of extreme value to students of Irish history. Mr. O'Hart was a member of the Harleian Society of London and a Fellow of tha TCoyal Historical and Archaeological Society, Ireland.

KERRY.— Clerical Appointment. The Very Rev. Charles O'Sullivan has been appointed parish priest of Millstreet, Vicar Forane, and Canon of €he diocese of Kerry, by the Most Rev. Dr. Coffey. KINO'S COUNTY. At a recent meeting of the Birr Urban Council, Mr. James Browne presiding, the following resolution, proposed by Mr. W. Loughrey, and seconded by Mn William Lowry, C.P.L.G., was adopted — ' That thr» names of the undermentioned streets in the town of Birr be changed as Bpeaifiod, viz., Duko street to Tara street, Duke square to Tara sqjuare, and Cumberland street to Patrick street, and that the clerk be instructed to issue voting papers to the ratepayers residing in the abovenamed streets for the purpose of obtaining their assent to the alterations in street nomenclature now proposed ' The avowed object of theso changes is to prevent the town in the names of uts principal thoroughfares from b\eing any longer associated with the memory of the Dvike of Cumberland, whose colossal statue, surmounting a classic and beautiful Doric column, occupies the centro of the square that is called after his title.
