From our own correspondent.) February G Much feeling is locally displayed over recent appointments made by the City Council. It has been stated by the offt -er in charge of the Ekctrio Tramway Company's Works that the large buni £175,000 will be spent by the company in Auckland. Amongctthe number who pissed the Matriculation Examination this time were Missis Ivy Ansley ani Mathilda Brown, of St. Mary's Convent High School, and Alias Annie McGktt'gan, ot St. Leo's Academy, De/vonport. Bight Rev Mgr. o'Reilly has been once again elected chairman of the Thames Hospital Tru* ees for the ensuing year. The plans of the inteuded Manat Brother*,' College, which were Bent up to the head house in France, have been returned, and the alterations suggested are but trivial. It is now confidently anticipated that a commencement will shortly be made to erect the college the absolute need for which has long been felt throughout this large diocese. Rev. Father O'Connor, of Gisborne. left for the scene of his spiritual labors last Tuesday by the Ehngamite. During the Rev. Father's stay in the city he had bten in iroifrc rent health, so much BO that he couldn't attend the annual retnat for the clergy for which he specially ca-ne up. Owing; to ihe good medical treatment received Father 0 Connor has gone Lome much improved in health.
