ST. BRIDE'S CONVENT, MASTERTON.

(From our Wellington correspondent.)

The distribution of prizee took place at St. Bride's, Convent Masterton, on Wednesday last, in the presence of a large assemblage of relatives of the pupils and well-wishers of the convent. The schoolroom was neatly decorated for the occasion. An excellent musical programme, wherein were shown results of the very careful instructions imparted by the Sisters, was given by the pupila. The piano solos call for special mention. The report for the year having been read, the Very Rev. Dean McKenna, who presided, took the opportunity of thanking the large audience for their attendance and also the donors of prizes for their generosity. The kindly feeling shown by the people of Masterton and the press of the town were, he said, a source of great satisfaction to himself and friends, ine i pupils had had a very busy and successful year, and the course of studies embraced all subjects necessary for a thorough and liberal education. Parents and guardians were beginning to see the advantage of having such an institution in their midst, and pupils had come a considerable distance to benefit themselves at the school Indeed the accommodation was taxed to its utmost capacity and serious thought had been given to the question of the enlarging of the building. The staff had been increased during the year by the arrival of two Sisters from Home, and a still further increase waa expected from the ranks of some of the former pupils who were about to enter the convent. The success in the theory of musio examinations during the year had been most gratifying Out of fourteen pupilß presented twrlve were successful, and one of these, Miss Richards, had gained the highest possible number of marks. Miss Eceleton had also gained honors iv her grade. In addressing the pupils, he wished them very pleasant holidays, and aßked them to remember the training received at the convent and do honor to their Ahna Mater by their exemplary lives. The prizes were then distributed. Miss Pollie Malabar received the medal for good conduct and also a wreath for amiability.
