CONVENT HIGH SCHOOL, ASHBURTON.

Large numbers of the parents and friends of the pupils availed themselves of the invitation of the Sisters of the Mission (says the Ashburton Mail) to attend the annual piize distribution at the convent. Two rooms at the entiance to the institution were decorated with the work of the students, including paintings, panels, plaques, mantel drapes, cushions, table centres, and covers, brackets, tea cosies, satchel?, and other fancy and plain needlework, all of which tefctified to the care exercised in the tuition, and also the capabilities of the pupils. After the visitors had spent some time in the inspection of the artistic efforts of the students, an adjournment was made to the large schoolroom, which was prettily decorated for the ceremony of the prize distribution, and here the building was promptly filled, every seat being availtd of. The following interesting musical programme was given, all the items being marked with close attention, and performed were with great skill :—: — "Duet (two pianos), Misses LagaD, Cox, Dove, and McKay ; song and chorus, senior pupils ; duet (violin \ ' Whac are the wild waves saying,' Ist violins, Misses Culleu and McKay ; 2nd violins, Misses J. and W. BricK ; piano accompaniment, Miss Lagan. At the conclusion of the programme the Very Rev. Dean O'Donnell warmly thanked the pupils for their enjoyable concert so ably given.
