WANGANUI.

(From our own correspondent.) December IS. Rev. Bro. Augustine has improved greatly since last weekThere ia every hope that the recent operation will ultimately restore him to hia aocußtomed vigor.

The Very Rev. Father Smyth, who o< nd noted a R»tr«ht for the Children of Mary during last week, was made the recipient of a handsome present at the bands of the members of that confraternity. On the Feast of tho Immaculate Co'iception there was Solemn High Mass, sung by Very Rev Dean Kirk, with Very Rev. Father Smyth as deacon and Itev. Father O'Sullivan as sub-deacon. The visiting priest (Father Smyih) pre. ched in thn morning and again »t Vesp< rs The preacher ba'-ed his evening sermon on the text, ' Thou art all fair. O my love. :ind there i« n«>t a spot in thee,' and from the->e words tikeu from the Canticle of Cautioles, iv. 7 preached an el< quent sermon on ttie Feast of the day. Among the successful candidates at the recent junior scholarship examination, held under the Wanganui Educ ition Board, I notice the numeof Mies Nellie Dwyer, of the convent school. There were 32 candidates in this class, and she came out second on the list with a percentage of 79 9, being only a few marks removed from the place of honor. As Misa Dwyer was (I understand) the youngest candidate sitting at the examination, this must be considered as a highly creditable result. The Sisters are to be congratulated on the Buccess of their young and promising pupil.
