DIOCESE OF DUNEDIN.

The fine new Dominican convent recently erected in Milton will be solemnly blessed and opened on next Sunday by his Lordship the Bishop. The sermon on the o-v-asian will be preached by the Very Rev. Dean Burke, of Invercargill. During the absence ot the Very ttev. Father O'Neill in Europe his place in Milton will be taken by the Rev. Father Howard of Oamaru. The Rev. Father Delany, of South. Dunedin, will replace Father Howard in Oamaru.

It has been decided to postpone the art union in aid of the Convent of Mercy. South Dunedin, until the 19th March next on account of a number of blocks of tickets from distant parts not haviner come to hand.

The last social gathering of the season in connection with St Joseph's So;ial and Literary Club will take place in St Josephs Hall on Thursday night. The proceedings will commence at 7.30 o'clock, and as thiawiUbethe final gathering this year it is expected there will be a very large attendance. The com rui Wee have made every arrangement for the enjoyment of members. His Lordship the Bishop has been pleased to offer a scholarship of £40 in connection with St. Dominic's College, Dunedin The scholarship is open to all the Catholic schools of the diocese, and entitles the euoceasful competitor to one year in St. Dominic's Boarding School or three years in the Superior Day Sohool The questions for this year will be based upon the sixth standard of proficiency and will include the following subjects : Christian Doctrine, English, Arithmetic, and Geojjrapliy. The examinations will begin on December 9, and arrangements have been made to have the competitors' papers tested by an independent board of examiners.
