(From our own correspondent.) September 20. Rev. Father Dahda, a Syrian priest, ia staying • few daja in our town. He is the guest of the Very Rev. Dean Kirk. At the theoretical examination of the Associated Board of the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music, held in Wanganui on June 1 last, the following pupils of the Sacred Heart Convent passed successfully : — Local centre — Elements of music : Misses Minnie Barrie, Mary T. Tymons, Amy G. Hyde, Emily M. Gibbons, Mary Flynn, Kathleen Galpin, and Nora Pine. The following is the list of successful candidates at the Trinity College musical knowledge examinations : — Senior pass : E Moroney 60. Intermediate honors : M. Tymons 79, K. Galpin 70. Intermediate pass : M. Flynn 81, N. Pine 60. Junior honors : B. O'Connell 92, M. Flynn 78, E. Gibbons 71, K. Quillinane 66 Junior pass: M. Mitchell 100, B. M'Govern 97, A. Sbsefer 93, N, Maneon 87, L. Shanly 87, D. Tait 86, M. Kyan 72, V. Meuli 72, E. Wells 70, N. Summers 61. It is my pad duty to record the death of a young girl, Catherine Quinn. who succumbed to a severe attack of la grippe after a short illneesj at the Wanganui Convent, on Friday, September 13. The deceased was the youngest daughter of Mrs. Quinn, Palmerston North (late of the West Coast), and for some time past had been a boarder at the local convent. Before her death the young sufferer had the happiness of being enrolled in the Sooiety of the Children of Mary. She was a general favorite, and her death at the early age of 14 years must come as a great shook, not only to her relatives, but also to her teachers and schoolmates. The funeral took place at Palinerston North on Monday, September 16. To the bereaved mother and family the sincerest sympathy is extended. — M.I.P.
