May 22. Bey. Father Mahony, who oame over to attend his) mother's funeral, has returned to Nelson. The Rev. Fathers Ryan and Murphy, who had been vißiliug Re*. Father O'Shea at the Te Aro presbytery, left for their respective destinations on Tuesday last. By the last San Francisco mail Rev. Father Ainsworth sent a post card from Rome. He was then in the enjoyment of excellent health. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered at the Saored Heart Church, Thorndon, to-morrow, by his Grace Archbishop Redwood. The children will receive their First Communion atth* 7.30 o'clock Mass on that day. His Grace returned from Nelson this morning. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament was held at the Saored Heart Churoh on Sunday last. Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Holley. In the evening, before the procession of the Blessed Sacrament, a reception of the Children of Mary was held. The sermon was preached by the Very Rev. Father Lewis, V.G. The musio daring the services was of a high order of merit. The annual social re-union of St. Joseph's choir was held at the Druids' Hall on Wednesday evening. Among the visitors were the Very Rev. Father Keogh (Rector of St. Patrick's College), Rev. Father O'Shea (president of the choir), and Rev. Fathers Clancy, Goggan, and Moloney. The choir re-union is always looked forward to, and this year was as successful as in the past. The weekly meeting of the Marist Brothers' Old Boys' Literary Society was held last Monday evening. Mr J. Kays, J.P., presided. The debate on ' Home Rule for Ireland ' was continued. After several speakers had addressed the meeting the leaders of the debate replied. On a division being taken the question was carried in the affirmative by a large majority. A series of lectures, to be given under the auspices of the Society, is to be arranged shortly by the oommittee. These will be open to the public and should prove instructive as well as interesting.
