WAIHI NOTES.

(From our own correspondent.) April 15. Since the Rev. Father Brodie'a arrival in Waihi he has lost no time in {jetting to work in the beßt interests of the parish. Already a suitable section for a church aite has been bought and paid for, and a large number of subscriptions have been promised towards the new new church. On Easter Sunday the ohoir was assisted by vocalists from Auckland. After the evening devotions the plans of the proposed new church, prepared by Mr. Mahoney, architect, Auckland, were submitted to the committee, and adopted with a slight modification, The church will be the third largest in the diocese.

Last Friday evening a welcome social was tendered to the Rev. Father Brodie, when the hall was crowded. There were members of all denominations present, an evidence of the goodwill which exists amongst the Waihi people. The social was one of the most successful ever held in Waihi, and reflects great credit on the ladies' committee who so successfully carried it out. There are now a large number of Maoris in Waihi ami the outlying district, and on Sunday last the Rev. Father Vandyk celebrated Mass at Waihi, when there was a very large attendance of both natives and Europeans. The celebrant preached to the Maoris in their own language.
