WEDDING BELLS.

ASHTON— EVANS

A pretty wedding (writes our Christchurch correspondent) was celebrated by the Very Rev. Dean Foley, S.M , on Thursday afternoon, July ."», in the temporary church used instead of the ProCathedral. The contracting parties were Mr. Frederick H. Ashton, of the Railway department, and Miss Gertrude Mary Clare Evans, second daughter of Mr. C. 11. Evans, Allandale. Opawa. The brid««, who was given away by her father, was attired in a white satin dre J s with court train and trimmed with chiffon, and wore the customary veil and wreath of orange blossoms. The bridesmaids were Misses Marian and France.-* Evans (sisters of the bride) and Miss Rose Ashton (sister of the bridegroom). Their dres^s were of. pink silk with black velvet hats, and each wore a gold band ring with initials engraved, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. Bernard P. vans (brother of the bride) acted as best man, and Mr. Frank Sandels as groomsman. The church was crowded by those anxious to witness the interesting ceremony, at the termination of which a few intimate fiiends mat at the residence of the bride's father, whe^e the wedding breakfast was laid. Among those present was the Very Rev. Dem Foley, who made a singularly happy speech in proposing the health of the newly wedded couple.
