On Sunday last the Yen. Archdeacon Devoy announced that since the penny collections were commenced in July 1893 a total of £1,150 had been realised. This money has been devoted to buying the property and building the school on it at Newtown, and paying interest on the loans in the parish.

Mr. Philip Reese, of Brook street, Thorndon, died suddenly on Sunday last. Mr. Reese, who was on the Government Printing Office staff, though in ill health followed his usual occupation until the Friday evening preceding his death, the immediate cause of which was typhoid. The funeral took place on Tuesday, the Very Rev. Father Lewis officiating. For many years the college has had an antiquated magic lantern, which, now relegated to obscurity, is supplanted by two magnificent oxy-hydro lanterns, together with nearly 1000 slides of all shades and forms-the gift of the reverend gentleman The lantern can be focusred for 80ft., throwing a picture of perfect outline and enormous dimensions.
