OBITUARY.

MRS. HALL, HORMANBY. An old and highly respected colonist, in the person of Mrs. Hall, passed away at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. P. Nolan, Normanby, on May 12. The deceased lady was mother of Mrs John Flynn (Hawera), Mrs. J. J. Connell (Hawera), and Mrs. P Nolan (Normanby), Mr. John Hall (Eltham), Mr. James Hall (Lepperton), and Mr. Thomas Hall (Wanganui). Mrs. Hall had been in failing health for some time, and consequently her death was not unexpected. The deceased arrived in Auckland in 1863 with her husband, who died some years ago. The late Mr. Hall was attached to the engineering section of the Imperial forces. Shortly after Mrs. Hall settled down in Taranaki, where she resided without intermission until her death, which took place in her seventy-second year. The family have the sincerest sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement.— R.l.P. MRS. HICKEY, ADDINGTON. In the person of Mrs. Mary Hickey, who died on Monday, May 21, at the age of 65 years, one of the oldest and most respected residents of Addington (writes a correspondent) passed away. The deceaeed was the third daughter of Mr. Richard Murphy, and was born in Milford, County Cork, Ireland. In the year 1863 she arrived in Canterbury, and shortly after married and settled in Addington, where she had lived up to the time of her demise. Mrs. Hickey was always a devout Catholic, and was much esteemed not only by her co-religioniats but also by all her neighbours and friends. During her last illness she was attended by the Very Rev. Father Le Menant des Chesnais, V.Gr. The Sisters of Our Lady of Missions also frequently visited her, and she expired in the most edifying manner, after having received the last rites of Holy Church. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place on the Thursday following her demise. The Rev. Father McDonald officiated in the Church, Barbadoes street, where the remains were taken, and also at the grave. She was interred in the Linwood Public Cemetery, near the remains of her late husband, Mr. Cornelius Hickey, who predeceased her 11 years ago. Mrs. Hickey leaves a grown-up family of one son and five daughters to mourn their loss. R.I.P.

We have received a parcel of used stamps for Father Kreymborg's mission from Miss Mary Doogan, Greymouth. Our correspondent has evidently not seen the notice, which appeared in the N.Z. Tablet a few weeks ago, to the effect that we had decided not to receive any more stamps for charitable purposes. In its last trip to Sydney the Waihora took a large shipment of New Zealand flax of superior quality, whioh is going through to Japan. It is understood the 'Japanese have discovered a mode of treatment of flax which makes it of a very Bilky character, and it is used principally in making up ' silk ' goods for colonial markets.
