NAPIER.

(By telegraph from our own correspondent.) April 2. At a reoent meeting of the Ifawke's Bay Education Board a letter was read from the Very Rev. Dean Grogan asking that the Board's Inspector be allowed again to examine the Catholic schools. The Board answered that as it had not rescinded a previous resolution leaving the question optional with the Inspector, the matter was left entirely in his hands Subsequently the Inspector wrote that he was prepared to conduct the examinations again this year. When the committee for the recent St. Patrick's Day Celebration first took the matter in hand it was a question whether Irish step-dancing should not be introduced into concert programmes. All agreed that step-dances, unless performed very efficiently, were better not attempted. Ultimately Mr. T. Fitzgerald consented to at once secure capable exponents and conduct several rehearsals of Irish reels and jigs. It was due to this careful preparation that the step-dances given at the concert found such favour with the audience, and it is to be hoped that the lesson will not be lost on those who have charge of the arrangements for subsequent national gatherings.
