March 19. The Rev. Father Purton assisted Monsignor Paul, at Onehunga last Sanday. The Rev. Mother of the Gisborne Convent recently returned from Sydney After a prolonged visit. The Rev. Father Hills, of Wellington, celebrated High Mass at the Saored Heart Church last Sunday.

Most sympathetic editorial notices appeared in the local papers with reference to St. Patrick's Day and the Irish race.

The political atmosphere is excited locally owing to the licensing election and the extraordinary vacancy in Auckland City. There are four Richmonds already in the field. His Lordship Bishop Lenihan, who wrote last mail, stated that owing to the war he had great difficulty in obtaining a desirable ■teamer for return to the Colony. His Lordship said he would cable to the Very Rev. Dean O'Reilly the date of his departure. At the Parnell Church special services were held last Sunday morning and evening. The Rev. Father Kehoe took ocoasion to refer to the splendid painting at the back of the altar, and commended the work of the artist.
