TiANtUKLV — Maynooth College was established in 1705 by an Act of the Irish Parliament during Pitt's ministry. The original endowment was an annual parliamentary grant of £8928. It was continued, though with much opposition from Orangemen ana other ultra-Protestants, till IStG. In that year it was increased, under the Petl ministry, to £2ii,'iijo a year. -In 1869, by the Irish Church Act. the endowment was withdrawn, a capital sum of fourteen tunes the amount being granted to the trustees for the disihaige of existing interests. The College has got no grant since 1 860.
