London, January 2. — The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,720,000 quarters ; for the Continent, 800,000 quarters. Wellington, January 3. — The Agent-General cables : — ' Butter, 102s. Market falling. Cheese : Market rising ; Canadian, 595.' London, January 4. — The wheat markets are steady and firm, but little business is doing. Victorian new crop of grain (December and January shipments) sold at 29a. Butter — Heavy imports are depressing the market. Colonial, 102s ; Danish, 120s. Cheese — Market hardening. Canadian 60s to 61s. Rabbits — There is a large supply, and the market is flat (BJd) ; hares (slumped) 19d. Napier, January 4. — Nelsons have received the following cable from the C. C. and D. Company, London : — ' Frozen meat market .•very depressed, and shows a fall in value in Dunedin and North (^lsland mutton. Quotations: Best Canterbury, 3 ; Dunedin and Southland, 2Jd ; Napier and North Island, 2}d. Lamb : First quality, 4sd ; second, 4|d.'
London January 7. — Frozen Mutton : Crossbred wethers land maiden ewes — Canterbury, 3 l-16d ; Dunedin and Southland, 2 13-16 d ; North Island, 2 13-16 d. Lamb : Prime Canterbury, 4Jd ; fair average (including Dunedin, Southland, Wellington, and secondary Canterbury), 4d. River Plate crossbred or merino wethers— heavy, 2 11-16 d ; light, 2 11-16 d.
