(From our own correspondent). June l' 2. The Hibernians celebrate their anniversary by a social to be held in the Catholic Institute on July 1 1. The annual social by the ladies of St. Patrick's parish in fixed for Tuesday, August s. There are now ninety arirls and nearly eighty boys in the Catholic orphanages of the city. Mr. Michael Gleeson, a young gentleman just over on a visit from the Jesuit College, Sydney, where he is a student, trave a, beautiful violin solo on Sunday night in the Cathedral. This talented young musician is a son of our old townsman, Mr. Patrick Gleeson, now resident at Dannevirke.

Rpv. Father Kehoe preached an eloquent and practical sermon at St. Patrick's last Sunday evening. The Rev. Ferguson, Presbyterian, has been vituperating the Ritualists on their Romish practices' of ' worshipping the Virgin Mary,' etc., eic. NZT. j A very successful concert was given at tiuntly recently for the purpose of raising fumio fur a new Catholic church. Ralph's spacious hall was packed. Of the eighteen items rendered only Ltiitc were contributed by Catholics. Some Anglican friends drove nine miles to assist. The takings at the door were excellent. The success of the concert was chiefly due to Miss Sarah Ralph and Mr. Edward Ralph. The progressive raining town of Huntly is badly in need ot a Catholic church. There is nearly £100 in hand for that purpose. The foundation stone will be laid early in spring. The building committee ate m enthusiastic, and intend building in brick.
