ARCHDIOCESE OF WELLINGTON.

(From our own correspondent.) January 21st. The Retreat of the clergy of the Archdiocese concluded on Thursday morning, immediately after which a meeting of the Diocesan Synod was held. The district of Feilding, hitherto part of the Masterton parish, has been constituted a separate parish, to which the Bey. J. O'Meara has been appointed. The Rev. Father Osborne, who was recently ordained in Ireland, and came out some months ago to the Colony for the benefit of his health, has decided to remain in New Zealand for a time, and will in the meantime assist the Very Rev. Father J. M'Eenna, of Masterton. Father Osborne is a nephew of Mrs. M'Killop of Masterton. The following examiners in theology have been appointed for the Archdiocese : — Very Bey. Dr. Pestre, Provincial of the Marist Order, and the Very Rev. Dr. Watters, Rector of St. Patrick's College, by his Grace Archbishop Bed wood ; Very Bey. Father Lewis, administrator of the Cathedral parish, by the clergy. The local representatives appointed to the Provincial Synod we : — Very Bey. Father Devoy, V.G., appointed by his Grace Archbishop Redwood ; Very Bey. Dr. Pestre, ex-ojicio, representing the .Marist Fathers ; Very Bey. Father J. M'Kenna, the secular clergy ; jmd the Bey. J. O'Shea, the Marist clergy. The Boyal Oak Hotel, recently destroyed by fire, is to be immediately replaced by an imposing three-storey structure. lam .pleased to understand that the plans and specifications for the new building have been entrusted to the popular and well-known architect, Mr. J. O'Dea. The Rev. Father Hickson, who recently severed his connection with St. Patrick's College, for the purpose of assisting in mission work in Napier, left for the North on Friday afternoon.
