DIOCESE OF AUCKLAND.

(From our own correspondent.) The final meeting of the Auckland Catholio Literary Society took place on October 11th in St. Patrick's Hall when members assembled to bring the session to a close. The entertainment took the form of a smoke concert. The preside t, Mr. W. Tole occupied the chair. The chairman opened the proceedings by giving a review of the work done during the session. During his address he warmly congratulated members on the marked progress made during the year. He extolled the chaplain, Rev. Father Croke, for the keen interest he had displayed in the Society's welfare. The chairman concluded by expressing the hope that members would continue in the future to give the society that hearty support which it merited, especially from young men. During the evening songs and recitations and speeches were contributed by members. The singing of 'Auld Lang Syne' brought to a close a very jolly evening, after which members dispersed with mutual good wishes for a pleasant recess,
