OBITUARY.
It is our painful duty to record the death of an old and highly revered Taranaki settler in the person of Mrs. Mary Collins, which took place at New Plymouth on the2lstult. The deceased lady, who had attained the age of 75, was the relict of Captain Robert Collins, formerly of H.M. 57th regiment, and who after serving with distinction in Crimea, Aden, and India, retired from the service and settled in New Zealand in 18G3. Captain Collins was captain and quartermaster of the field forces from 1866 to 18(i ( .), and died while on active service. Mrs. Collins has left a son and two daughters to mourn their loss —namely, Mr. R. J. Collins, accountant of the Treasury ; Mrs. T. R. Hackett, of Wellington ; and an unmarried daughter resident in New Plymouth. The funeral took place on th" 23rd ult, the body being first removed to St. Joseph's Church and subsequently to its last resting place in the local cemetery. The Rev. Father McKenna, who officiated, referred in glowing terms to the many estimable personal qualities of the deceased lady. A message of condolence was received by Major Collins from the Right Hon. the Premier.
