(From our own correspondent.)

December 11, 1897. His Grace Archbishop Redwood administered the sacrament of Confirmation to about thirty students of St. Patrick's College, at St. Joseph's Church on Sunday morning. A large number of children who made their first Communion a few woeks ago, as well as some adults, are now receiving instructions preparatory to being confirmed the ceremony taking place next Sunday at St. Mary of the Angels.

On Sunday last, the prizes won at the recent sports held in connection with St. Patrick's College, were presented to the winners by Dr Cahill, who warmly congratulated the recipients. Speeches were also given by the Rev. Dr. Watters and Dr. Martin. There was a large concourse of people present, and the college orche&tra performed an excellent programme, which was highly appreciated by those present. At the conclusion of the proceedings hearty cheers were given by the students for Drs. Martin and Cahill and the Very Rev. Rector. The remains of the late Mr. P. Cosgrove, whose demise I referred to in my last letter > were interred in the cemetery, Karori, on Sunday. The funeral cortege was a large and representative one ; among those present being Sir Maurice O'Rorke, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Logan, superintendent of the Electric Lines, and also many of the deceased's fellow officers of the Telegraph Department. Numerous wreaths and floral mementoes were laid on the coffin, some of which were sent from Napier, Gisborne, etc., by the telegraph staff there, by whom Mr. Cosgrove was highly esteemed. The service at St. Mary's Cathedral, and also at the cemetery, was conducted by the Very Rev. Father Davvson.
