REPORTS FOR WEEK ENDED DECEMBER 14

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited, report as follows :—: — V\ heat — The slight demand existing is confined to extra prime for milling, with some inquiry tor fowl's wheat, medium quality being unsaleable except for the latter puipose. Quotations tor prime northern Tuscan, and velvet, 4s .">d to 4s Sd ; be<-t nd wheat, 4s 2d to 1* id; medium nominally, iss 9d to 4s Id : inferior, 3.s to 3^ (id (ex-store, sacks weighed in. terms). Oats — The market continues very firm, not so much owing to the demand which is fairly brisk, but rather to the unsatisfactory reports of the condition of the growing crops both North and South. Sales are daily effected, but sellers are holding for higher price?. Meantime we quote : Prime milling, Is lid to 2s : prime stout feed, Is lOd to Is 11 Jd ; medium to good, Is B£d to Is IHd ; inferior, Is 4d to Is G^d (ex-store, sacks extra, net). Barley — There are no stocks now to operate on with the exception of odd lots a few. Quotations are therefore nearly nominal. Gra*s Seeds. — There is some inquiry for l^yegrass seed, but prices offered do not tend to much business. Quotations for best dressed, 3s 3d to 3s 9d ; extra do, 4s to 4s (id : large coarse seed, 2s to 2s (id (ex store, sacks extra, net) ; cocksfoot, 4d to 5J per lb. Chaff. — The supply being sufficient for requirement prices are unchanged, best fetching L 3 5s to L 3 l()s ; extra prime, L 3 12s Gd ; medium to good, L 2 10s to L 2 17s (id per ton (ex truck, sacks extra, net). Potatoes. — Old Derwents are now almost unsaleable, only fetching 7 s (id to 15s per ton. Sheepskins — Prices remain fairly steady, notwithstanding recent reports. Best dry crossbreds fetch 4d to ~>\& ; medium, 2Jd to 3£d ; dry merinos, 2d to 4£d per lb ; best green crossbreds, 4s 3d to us 3d ; extra heavy, 5s 6d to 5s Ud ; medium, 3s 6d to 4s each.

Rabbitskins continue in good demand, prime winter grey mixed still fetching Is l.Jd to Is 2£d ; selected does, Is 2^d to Is 3^d ; medium, lOd to lid; summer and off-season, 3d to SJd ; suckers aid inferior, Id to 2£d per lb. Hides meet a ready sale. Extra heavy, 801bs to lOOlbs, 3Jd to 4d : (iOlbs to 7()lbs, 3d to 3,', d ; sGlbs to GOlbs, 2%A ; 451bs to 65lbf, 2id ; 38lbs to 4">lbs. 2}d f 371 bs to 3Slbs, 2d ; inferior, Id to lid per lb. Tallow and Tat — Best country rendered fetches 13s Gd to 15s ; medium, 10s fid to 13s ; rough fat. best mutton caul, Ds (id to 10s ; medium, 8s 9d to 9s 3d ; inferior, 8s to 8s Gd per cwt (ex store, net). Messrs. Stronach Bros, and* Morris report as follows : Fat cattle — 11)7 forward. There was a fair demand, but prices were about 10s a head easier. Best bullocks sold at LBto L 9 15s ; extra prime, LlO to LlO 17s fid ; medium to good, L(J to L 7 15s ; best cows, L 6 to L 7 2s Gd ; medium, LI 10s to L 5 15s. Fat sheep — 2003 penned. Bidding was dull and prices fully Is lower than last week. Best crossbred wethers sold at 13s to 14s (id ; medium to good, l()s to 12s Gd ; shorn do., 9s to 11s ; best crossbred ewes, 1 Is Gd to 13s ; medium, 9.s to 1 Is : shorn do., Gs to 9s. Fat lambs — G!)0 penned ; prices showing a decline of Is to Is fid a head compared with la^t week. Bi st lambs sold at Ds to 10s !)d ; good, 7s (id to 8s Ud ; others. 4s Gd to 7s. Pigs — 185 forward ; there being a splendid demand for all Forts. Suckers sold at 9s to Ids ; slips, 19s to 2ls (id ; stor.s. 24s to 29s ; porkers. 31s to 37h ; buconers, 40s to 525. Rabbitskins — There are very few coming forward now, but all offering are keenly computed lor, and late prices are wull maintained. bheepskins. — There was a fair attendance of buyers at Tuesday's sale, and prices showed no alteration. Best green crossbreds sold at 4s 9d to 5s lid : medium, 4s to Is Gd ; do merino, 2s Gd to 3s ; best dry cross-breds, 4s to 5s Gd : medium, 3s to 3s lOd ; dry merinos, 3s to 4s 2d : medium. 2s to 2s 9d ; inferior, lb to Is i)d ; lambskins, Gd to lh Gd each. Hides. — Market lirrn. Prime hc.ny ox, 3Jd to 33J ; medium, 2]d to 3d ; light and inferior, 1 Jil to 2]d per lb. Tallow. — Market steady, Best rendered mutton, 13s to 14s 6d ; medium, 11s (id to li's Gd ; inferior, 9s to 11s; rough fat, 8s to 10s fid per cwt. Wheat. — There is a fair demand for all sorts and quotations remain unaltered. Barley — No charge to report. Quotations unaltered . Chaff — There is a fair demand at prices fully equal to last week's. Prime oaten theaf, 1.3 5s to Lli 10s; extra, L 3 12s Gd ; medium to good, 1, 2 15s to L 32* Gd per ton (bags extra). Potatoes — Market lifeless. Derwents, 10s to 20s per ton (bags in). Messrs Donald Reid and Co. report that prices ruled as under at their auction sale on Monday :—: — Oats. — A small catalogue of good feed was quitted under fair competition, at prices well up to those ruling during the past week. We quote : Prime milling, Is lld to 2s Id : good to best feed, Is 9d to Is lOd ; medium. Is 7d to Is SVd per bushel (sacks ex ra). Wheat. — We offered a few lines of medium to good fowl wheat, which sold at 3s to 3d Gd ; medium milling to 3.s 9d per bushel (sacks in). Chaff. — Prime heavy oaten bheaf is in request at prices fully equal to those current last week.
