The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report as follows :—: — Wheat — Most of the millers being well supplied they now decline to operate except at lower prices, and some not at all. Quotations for prime milling velvet, 4s to 4s 6d ; best Tuscan, 3a lOd to 4s; best red wheat, 3s lOd to 3s lid ; medium and hard, i 3s 7d to 3s 9d ; inferior and fowl wheat, 2s 9d to 3s 5d (ex store, sacks in, terms). Oats— Continue in very good demand, but sellers being now more numerous, prices if anything are slightly easier, though if sellers should continue their reserve at 2s good business would even then be done and is now being done at that price. Rabbitskins — All coming forward are readily placed, medium fetching 9d to lOd ; autumns, 6Jd to 8d ; summer, 4,} dto 6d ; Buckers and half -grown, ld to 3^d per lb. Hides — Heavy hides are in demand and fetching S\d to 3^d ; medium, 2£d to 3d ; light, l£d to 2^d ; inferior, ld to Ijd per lb. Tallow and Fat — Best country rendered fetches 13a 6d to 15s ; inferior to medium, 10s 6d to 13s ; butcher's best caul fat, 11s to 11s 6d ; medium, 9s tid to 10s 6d ; inferior, 8s 6d to 9s per cwt (ex store, net). Messrs. Samuel Orb and Co., Stafford street, report as follows :—: — Fine weather has prevailed during the past week, and threshing has been vigorously pursued — even by moonlight, so as to get through it. Oats — Our forecast of last week of events has been already realised, as there is nothing like the 'demand now that characterised the market last week, notwithstanding holidays and a firmer tone in Sydney. As then pointed out, buyers have got good stocks, and bo were independent of any events that might or may happen — in fact, some of them will unload their purchases at the advance. We quote : Prime seed duns and long Tartars up to 2s 6d ; fair quality, 2s 4d ; heavy bright sparrowbills and tiutherlands, 2s ld to 2a 2id ; ordinary, up to 2s. Wheat — The market for this sereal is as dull as ditch water, and practically no sales transpiring. To quote would only mislead, so we refrain from it. Barley — A very good demand exists for good quality, but inferior difficult to quit. Chaff — Market well supplied now, and prices easier, L 3 being about the price for good quality ; prime, L 3 ss. Potatoes — Much about the same as hist week. L 3 5s for northern, and L 3 for southerns. Messrs. Stronach Bros, and Morris report as follows : — Fat Cattle — Only 94 yarded. Competition was brisk and prices showed a slight improvement. Best bullocks fetched L 7 15s to L 8 15s; extra heavy to L 9 12s 9d; medium L 5 15s to L 6 15s; light, L 4 10s to L 5 ss ; best cows L 5 17s 6d to L6lO ; a few extra prime, L 6 15s to L 7 15s ; medium, L 4 10s to L 5 5s ; light and aged, L 2 15s to L 3 17 6d. Fat Sheep — 1461 penned. There was a good demand and prices were slightly higher than last week. Best crossbred wethers

Pigs — 105 penned all selling fairly well at late quotation Hides, Tallow and Fat — In good demand at late quotations. Wheat— -The market is quiet, buyers acting very cautiously, and prices remain steady. Quotations — Prime milling, velvet, 4s to 4s 3d ; do Tuscan and red wheat, 3s lOd to 4s ; medium, 3s 8d to i 3s 9d ; inferior, 2s 6d to 3s 6d per bushel (sacks in). Messrs Donald Reid and Co. report as follows :—: — Oats— We submitted a small catalogue — mostly feed sparrowbills, — which met with moderate competition. Good sparrowbills sold at Is lid to 28 ; prime are worth about ld more ; medium, Is 9d to Is lOJd ; duns at 2s 2£d per bushel (seeks extra). Wheat— We offered fowl wheat, but as bidding did not come up to our valuation the bulk was passed in. Potatoes — The market is well supplied, and late quotations still hold good, We sold good Derwents at L 3 to L32s 6d ; prime are worth 2s 6d more. Chaff — The demand for prime oaten sheaf continues good ; other sorts are not keenly competed for. We offered about 40 tons, mostly medium to good quality, which sold at L 2 15s to L 3 2s 6d per ton. Prime is readily saleable at L 3 5s per ton (bags extra).
