REPORTS FOR WEEK ENDED APRIL 20.

Messes Samuel Ore and Co., Stafford street, report as follows :—

The weather has been changeable again during the week, and what crop is cut is suffering very materially, but after all there is not so much standing out in the souJi as reports would make one believe, and when the weather takes up there will then be a rush of grain both here and south. Oats — The market was very active during the early part of the week and prices firmed still further, and especially for good bright heavy milling, but now that the market is being " forced " a feeling of "hold off" is noticeable and a reaction will ensue. Those farmers who have therefore accepted the good prices going are to be congratulated. The whole demand has been speculation, as there is not a market open that can give equivalent prices with charges to what is ruling now. Moreover, we are opening the way for outside markets. As already stated, buyers are now in the mood of standing off them, as millers have stocks for their requirements of months, while other speculators have as many as they want ; others again will not touch them at the enhanced values. We sold several lines at Is lOd to Is lid on trucks in the South, and quote prime milling Sutherlands and heavy bright sparrowbills up to 2s 2s ; ordinary, Is lid to 2s Id. Wheat — The market for this has simply collapsed and we cannot report much doing in it anywhere. Home markets are all depressed too. We quote nomin illy up to 4s 3.Jd for prime velvet and Tuscan ; red sores, 4s Lo 4s 2d. Barley — We sold several good lines at prices satisfactoiy tj growers. Chaff— The market is not so firm as it was, L 35s being about top rate. Potatoes— Market well supplied and selling at up to L 3 5s for prime Derwents.
