While Mr Buskin's reputation aa a critic has suffered some eclipse of late, says a contemporary, there Bee ma no indication that Turner, whom be practically " discovered," to use the insolent phrase of the day, is falling off in popularity. One of Turner's pictures realised 5,200 guioeaa at a recent sale at Christie's, another 4,000 guineas, and two others 2,800 guineas. Bat evtn more remarkable prices were got for one or two otber works of art, and a portrait of Lady Mulgrave by Gainsborough, after a brisk competition, was knocked down for 10,000 guineas. It would be interesting to know how much Constantino John Phipps, second Baron Mulgrave, the husband of the lady, paid tor the portrait originally.
