DUNEDIN CATHOLIC LITERARY SOCIETY.

The ordinary meeting of the Society was held in the Christian Brothers' school, on Wedaesday, August 7th. There was a large at! en. dance of members, and, Mr Haughton having to leave, Mr Dobbin occupied the chair. The committee selected to pick the team for tha forthcoming debate with the Congregational Church Sjcioty, chose the following to represent the Society :— Messrs Marlow, P. Hally, Oarolin, Mooney Hussey, and J. Eager. The programme c insisted of " Experiences in tbernnting field ia Essex," by Mr F. W. Petre, which was both instructive and amusing, and evoked a hearty vote of thanks from those pri sen. Esv P. Lynch contributed a short address, entitle! " Sesostrip," better known as " Rameses II.," one of the great rulers of ai ciont Egypt, who died 3000 years ago, and whose mummy baa la'ely betn discovered in Dier-el Behari, nes»r Cairo. The lecture wa< listened to with wrapt a'tenHon, and proved a great source of infortna'ioi to the members, who will, no doubt, after bearinz it, do their best to study up this very interesting and use f ul subject.
