OPENING OF A FEMALE BRANCH AT DUNEDIN. The members of the Dunedin Branch of tho above Society some time ago appointed a Bpecial committee to take ihe necessary steps towards the* formation of a Branch for Cnt'olic females. Owins to the sad event which la'ely happened in the diocese, the work did nji proceed r.a quickly as could be desired, but on Wednesday evening, the 24-h July, the fust Fmile Branch of the H.A..0.8.5. in this Coloiiy was tucceskfully open, d in the Christian Brothers' School, Rattray st. There were present the Very Sev Father Lynch and the Rev Fathers Murphy and Howard, and miny members and friends of the St Joseph's Branch. The district executive at Auckland had em. powered Brothers John A. Hally and Jameß O Connor, of the local Branch, to officiate on their behalf, and the former occupied tho chair. After the customary addiese, the ctnrter waj read, and the Branch formally declared open by the presiding officer. About 30 ladies were then initiated. It was unanimously decided to name the new lodge after " Oar Lady of Perpetual Succour." The nomination of officers was then proceeded with. The chairman Baid with regard to tha office of president, when the idea was first mooted of starting tha Society the late Dr Moran bad heartily approved of it, and wished the movtment every success, bat gave it as his decided opinion that one of the priests should become chief officer. The ladies consulted on the subject had agreed to this, and tha action of the chairman in declaring the Very Rev Father Lynch elected first president of Oar Lady of perpetual Succour Branch H.A.C.B.S. (female division), was received with a genuine outburst of applause. The other offices were filled aa under : — Vice-president, Sister Kate Falkner ; secretary, Sister Mary Murphy ; treasurer, Sister Adelaide Heley ; warden, Si9ter Bridget Walsh ; guardian, Sinter Mary Hughes ; sick visitors, Sisters Ellen Falkner and Eleanor Rossbotham. Owing to the lata hour, the installation of officers was he'd over till next meeting, aa was also the appoin'meat of auditors and trustees. Father Lynch ia a complimentary speech thanked Brothers Hally and O'Connor and the other members of the committee for the troubla they had taken in the matter. The proceedings were than brought to a close.
