OBITUA RY .

Much and deep regret in on fill sides felt at the Bomow'-at sudden death of Mrs Mary Curtin, whose demise took place late on Monday eveninsr, April Bth, at tha ag« of forty-nine years. Mrs Ourtin was a native o( Limerick, Ireland. She left her native land in her girlhood, and went to Greenwich, London, where she eventually married. During h r sojourn near the English capital, she had the pleasure to become acquainted with, and to attend the ministrations of Bishop Grant, and other noted ecclesiastics in that place in those times. B bc arrived in this colony thirty-two years ago, and was ooe of the oldest residents in Addington. Endowed naturally not only with a kind and cheerful disposition, bat also with a firm and sound judgment, she understood perfectly the duties of a good Ohristiao, and though a plain and bumble woman, yet she was very intelligent and zealous in all matters, Mrs Curtin, who was universally liked, was, in a word, a genuine Catholic, and one whose place will not be soon filled. Io spite of her feeble health and her domestic duties, she took a very active part in almost every parochial work, and as she was generous of her time and labour in any gooi causp, she waa ever snccessful. Among other matters which engaged especially her attention, waß the welfare of the Addington^Catbolic school, at tbe opening whereof she assisted about ten years ago. Mrs Gnrtin, who snffered much occasionally from a chronic weakness of the heart had at tbe time of her demise just recovered from a severe attack of the malady, and hopes were entertained that her life would be spared for a few years at least. She leaves a husband, Mr Dauiel Oartin, and two grown-up sons to monrn her loss. A large number of friends and neighbours attended her funeral, which took place on Thursday afternoon last, from her late residence in Harman street, Addington. Her remains were interred in the old Catholic cemetery in Barbadoes street. The Very Rev Father Oummlngs, V.G., officiated in the procathedral, also at the grave where he delivered an address.— R.l P. We record with great i egret tbe death of Mrs Houlahan, wife of Mr Michael Houlahan, now reel (eat in Leith Valley near Dunedia, and formerly of Hokitika. The deceased lady, who was a daughter of the late Mr Michael Mnrphy of New O*stle West, County Limerick, was come of a good old lino of Irish ancestry and waa all her life true to the princip'es and traditions she had inherited. Sao was a good wife and mother, a good woman and a good Christian, and God rewarded her unfailing fidelity to the Catholic faith by giving her the grace of a holy and a happy death. She had been in ill health for about a year, but it was only some eleven weeks before the end that her state gave cause for alarm. She had all the consolations of religion, being visited frequently by the rar clergy of tha mission, and having a part in the prayers of the Dominican nunc, of whose community a niec3 of Mr Houlaban's is a member. The kind sympathy of very many friends also solaced her last bourg, and Bines her death her sorrowing husband and children have received many mark 3of the esteem and affection with which she bad been regarded. Numerous messages and telegrams of condolenca have come from various places, among them one from Mr and Mrs SeddoD, whom the preoccupations of public life do not prevent from giving a kind thought to au old friend. The Very Rev Dean Martin, also, who officiated eighteen years ago at tha deceased's wedding, sent a comforting word. The deceased lady, who has passed away at the comparatively early age of 44, has left a fondly attached husband and six children to mourn her loss.— May her soul through the mercy of God rest in peare.
